Meet Our Founder

Matt Smith, ACF is the President and Founder of Pine Valley Forestry Services. His specialties include forest management, forest and carbon inventories, resource analysis, forests as an investment, forest certification programs, and wildlife management. Matt has 23 years of experience in forestry consulting and 20 years of experience on forest carbon offset projects. Matt also, managed nearly 450,000 acres of investor owned timberland for over 10 years.

Highlights of Matt's career include the Presidents award from the Association of Consulting Foresters in 2009, and forest education awards from SAF in 2007. He testified for SAF before the US House of Representatives Committee on Agriculture in 2009 on the state of the Nation's forests, served as an SFI/ISO 14001 auditor for 9 years, and is a pioneer in the area of forest carbon offsets. He served as health and safety officer for 12 years, and adjunct professor for nearly 20 years at SUNY ESF where he earned his BS in Forestry.
