Meet Our Founder

Matt Smith, ACF is the President and Founder of Pine Valley Forestry Services. Matt has 23 years of experience in forestry consulting and 15 years of experience in forest carbon offset projects. His specialties include forest management, forest and carbon inventories, resource analysis, forests as an investment, forest certification programs, and wildlife management.

Highlights of Matt's career include the Presidents award from the Association of Consulting Foresters in 2009, Forest education awards from the Society of American Foresters in 2007, managing nearly 450,000 acres of investor owned timberland for 10 years, testifying before the US House of Representatives Committee on Agriculture in 2009 on the state of the Nation's forests, serving as an SFI/ISO 14001 auditor for 9 years, and being a pioneer in the area of forest carbon offsets. He served as health and safety officer for 12 years, and adjunct professor for nearly 20 years at SUNY ESF where he earned his BS in Forestry.
